Eid in Westminster Libraries

Westminster Libraries’ Bengali Service held two community events last weekend at Church Street and Pimlico libraries, to mark the celebration of Eid-Ul Adha.

The party at Church Street (pictured above) was attended by over 150 people (89 of them children!), who took part in various arts and craft activities, a quiz and a story as well as fun games. Local people were invited to bring in a dish to share, so the food was plentiful – it was amazing to see people coming with pots and plates of food, from biryani to beautifully made cupcakes, to share with their neighbours. It was a great community feeling of celebration and sharing. Everyone had so much fun and people are already asking about whether we are doing another Eid party next year!

Eid-Ul Adha 2015 at Pimlico LibraryPimlico Library’s Eid and Family Learning event was organised in partnership with Westminster Family Learning, who provided two family arts and craft activities involving maths and 3D patterns for families to create a gift lantern. Almost fifty people attended and enjoyed the story, quiz and henna arts. The event ended with a game of pass the parcel and light refreshment.
