Marylebone Library makes its presence known

If the people of Marylebone didn’t know about their library service (or indeed about the workings of their pelvic floor…) at the beginning of June, we hope that significantly more of them do now!

We have been busy little bees, promoting the library and reaching out to those that may not have joined us yet.

Open Day, Saturday 14 June

The day started with a storytelling session, where children discovered that magic is in everyday life through Renée’s stories of ghosts and magic seeds.

Other events included ‘The Journey: from writing to being published’ by author Sarah Naughton, ‘Taking Good Portraits’ by award winning photographer Rosalind Hobly, a talk about pelvic floor muscles, dog micro-chipping, internet taster sessions, a gardening talk by expert Francis, a creative movement class and lots more for all ages.

Furthermore, throughout the day we enjoyed music played by La Trappistine. In total we had 11 different events. “It was a true tonic to both mind and body”, commented one visitor.

Marylebone Summer Fayre

On Sunday 15 June Marylebone Library represented the whole library service at the Marylebone Summer Fayre, where thousands come to enjoy a village-like fete with stalls, bands, carousels, children’s activities, music and food, right in the heart of London.

We signed up lots of new members and were able to promote our many services, including online resources and the benefits of being part of the Triborough system (whereby Westminster, Hammersmith & Fulham and Kensington Chelsea library members can borrow from all three boroughs with one card).

Visitors to our stall were also able to view the 1942: The Library in the Park mini exhibition produced by our resident creative genius David.

Waitrose Outreach

Finally, on Wednesday 18 June we trotted down to Waitrose on Marylebone High Street to join up passersby, who were able to borrow a range of items there and then from our mobile library (aka our trolley ;-)), giving them a small taste of what’s available at our libraries.
