Make a difference this summer!

Have you ever thought about volunteering in your local library? Are you interested in encouraging children to read? Do you have some time to spare over the summer? Then we would love to hear from you!

The annual Summer Reading Challenge happens across the UK and gets thousands of children into their local libraries to take part. Children’s reading skills can ‘dip’ during the long summer holidays, but taking part in the Challenge can make a big difference in maintaining their reading skills and confidence.

We are looking for volunteers to help us deliver the Challenge in our libraries this summer.

Summer Reading Challenge activity 2013Anyone aged 14 and over can apply to volunteer. You will be encouraging children to join, hearing them talk about their books and giving out rewards and incentives. If you are creative, there are also opportunities to help out with craft events. It’s fun and really rewarding!

So if you are friendly, patient and have some time to volunteer during the summer holidays, then visit our web page for more details or pop in to your local Westminster library.

Take a look at what we’ve got up to in previous years.

You could make a big difference to a child’s reading confidence this summer, and we even give you a certificate at the end 🙂 !
