Pimlico to Amsterdam

Amsterdam by Ian McEwanThe Pimlico Library Bookclub met earlier this month to discuss Amsterdam by Ian McEwan.

The group was evenly split between those who found the novel an easy and enjoyable read and those who found it contrived and lacking in depth. Everyone agreed the characters were unlikable in the extreme (with no exceptions) and the ending was harried, even abrupt.
The novel would not have won the Booker Prize under this panel!

Miss Garnet's Angel by Sally VickersOur next meeting will take place on 7 January 2014 due to the Christmas holidays. We will resume our normal meeting pattern of the last Tuesday of the month from March onwards. The title for January will be Miss Garnet’s Angel by Salley Vickers – we look forward to seeing you then.
