Carnival time in NW8

On Saturday 20 July Nat and Amy from St John’s Wood Library went to the heart of Brazil… via a local Westminster school.

The Clube dos Brasileirinhos use the facilities at George Eliot school every Saturday morning to provide a way for children with Brazilian heritage to learn Brazilian Portuguese and understand Brazilian culture. They had a special party to celebrate the children’s achievements and we went along to promote the library and the Summer Reading Challenge to all the families. We ran an arts and crafts table which included decorating cupcakes and making a Saci Perere door hanger to … ‘make your own house Creepy this summer’…

The parents enjoyed reminiscing about the old TV show while the children coloured their door hangers. We were very well entertained with music and dancing and here are some pictures to show a little of the carnival spirit.
