Staff and Friends of Mayfair Library participated in two community events recently. On Monday evening 24 June at the Mount Street Garden Party we promoted our library services to businesses and residents – Michael Parkinson was one of the great and good present, and Jane Peyton (also hailing from Yorkshire) was our guest author signing copies of her book Brilliant Britain. Much champagne was drunk.
Then on Sunday 30 June we ran five stalls as part of the annual Mount Street Summer Fair. This is a joint venture with the Grosvenor Chapel, the Church of the Immaculate Conception, St Georges Hanover Square School and ourselves.
We promoted the Summer Reading Challenge, raised money and had cake decorating and jewellery making activities for children. Much cake was eaten.
The Lord Mayor of Westminster, Councillor Sarah Richardson attended both events and I was introduced to her – we talked about the role of the Friends of Mayfair Library and I encouraged her to join up her two children to the Summer Reading Challenge.
