Polar Bear in the library (again)

Polar Bear visits Mayfair LibraryWestminster Libraries must be the only library service in the country – nay, the world – able to have TWO blog posts with the above as a perfectly legitimate title! (Here’s the other one)

This week Mayfair Library had a visit from a polar bear. He came in to brush his fur and get himself ready for his début at nearby private member’s club ‘George’, where he was due to entertain passersby on Mount Street.

He even stopped to borrow a book, perhaps for his long journey back home to the North Pole? It’ll be due back in three weeks, Mr Bear… The children from St. George’s Hanover Square School all came to give the bear a good send off.

Contrary to his very convincing appearance – and size – the bear was not real (sorry). He was animatronic, but also had a person inside to move and control him. The operator could only spend half an hour inside the suit because of the lack of air.
