Marika and Rose

St John’s Wood Library recently had the honour of a visit from the author Marika Cobbold.

Drowning Rose, by Marika CobboldShe shared with us her reasons for being a writer, what makes her tick, why she thinks storytelling is important, what her working day looks like and her take on negative reviews.

Most of those attending had had a chance to read her book Drowning Rose and we all liked this story in which the main character is a fortyish woman who ‘comes of age’ by coming to terms with the death of her good friend from her teenage years. There are other layers that we peel off as we read the story and perspectives by other people that add to our understanding of the main character.

Marika’s talk was gracious and honest. On our part, we offered Marika wholehearted encouragement by voicing our gratefulness for providing us with an enjoyable book and talk. We hope to see her again soon with another novel!
