Three boroughs on the number 9 bus

Sophie Kinsella on the Number 9 Bus for World Book NightThe merged library services of Westminster, Kensington & Chelsea and Hammersmith & Fulham had fun on World Book Night last week, travelling on a special Number 9 Bus and visiting Hammersmith, Kensington Central and Paddington libraries – one in each of the boroughs.

Several library members, staff, reading group participants and our special guest, award-winning chick lit author Sophie Kinsella gave out World Book Night books.

Passers-by were delighted to receive their free books and find out about how they could get more (ie: join the library!). People also boarded the bus and listened to the Maida Vale Library Play Reading Group reading excerpts from the books. Later in the evening a number of staff travelled with Sophie to the Queen Elizabeth Hall on the South Bank to join high profile writers in a  national celebration of books and reading.

What a great night! View more pictures and videos of the event on Sophie Kinsella’s Facebook page.
