Sound advice

There are times in everyone’s life when they need advice because of the complexity of things, but we all know that talking to a lawyer is a bit like cutting the bottom out of your pockets, right?

Instant Law - legal advice in Westminster LibrariesAt Marylebone Information Service and Westminster Reference Library we know all about this, because every day we have customers asking for information about where they can get some legal advice that isn’t going to leave them short of funds. The law centres and Citizens Advice Bureaux are constantly under siege, and trying to understand the legal texts by yourself… well, that way madness lies.

So when we were approached by Instant Law UK, who were offering to install free computers in our library which people could use to speak live to an expert solicitor on frequently occurring legal problems, we were delighted. It’s so much more positive to be able to tell a customer that they can get some immediate help on the spot rather than refer them to a stressed agency worker who may or may not have time to hear their story within the next two weeks.

The service offers customers a twenty minute session over a video-conference link. Speaking to someone who knows their subject will usually yield significant fruit in that time, and certainly enough for the customer to get a better idea if it is in their interest to pursue a case and seek representation – which Instant Law UK can also manage for them.

Instant Law UK can be accessed in a private room at Marylebone Information Service or in a separated area at Westminster Reference Library. The service is available during library opening hours until 5.30 p.m. during the week, and until 1.30 p.m. on Saturdays.
