Paddington Library entered in to the spirit of Christmas with a Festive Season Family Fun Day. All the staff were involved in one way or another, booking and planning events, publicizing the day, leading on activities, buying and preparing the food, cleaning up afterwards and even joining in the carol singing!
Stefanie, Grainne and Sabrina entertained children with Stories, Numbers & Songs from Around the Globe, while Laurence presented to a slightly older audience a reading of the opening part of Dickens’ novel A Christmas Carol.
Further childrens’ entertainment was provided by the versatile Aitor, who donned a top hat and black waistcoat and staged a magic show.
The Real Deal Theatre Group, which has worked with Westminster Libraries many times in the past, performed a series of light-hearted sketches with a seasonal theme for adults and children alike. This attracted a large audience which increased as the show went on.
To calm everyone down after the high drama from Real Deal, Kate and her husband Tim from the British Wheel of Yoga did a family yoga event.
Finally, the library resounded to a medley of well-known Christmas carols performed by the Westbourne Park Baptist Church choir led by the redoubtable and ebullient Suma, a great friend and supporter of Paddington Library.
It would be remiss of me not to mention Paola, who was not present in person, and yet present in spirit, as Paola had prepared some sensational mulled wine which went down a treat, along with delightful cakes, chocolates and mince pies. Kate had also got Tesco to sponsor the event by providing a large tin of chocolates.
The whole event provided a great afternoon for our users and visitors. What a pity Christmas comes but once a year!
