The Paddington Library Writers’ Group has now been running for six months, and yesterday welcomed two new members to the fold. The mince pies were passed around as this was the last time we would meet before the New Year.
We have decided to continue the meetings in the same format as we’re currently doing, and we are also looking into to publishing members’ material. More details about this will emerge at the next meeting. One of our members has already self-published a children’s book based on folk tales from her native Uganda.
Among other topics discussed yesterday was how we plan our writing – some members draw flow charts with characters, others have different methods. We also looked at published authors and how they influenced our writing – there was quite a variation! One member is influenced by Salinger, Kureishi, and Murakami, while another found empathy with Catherine Cookson, Danielle Steel and Virginia Andrews. Yet another member gained writing technique by reading the philiosophical works of Krishnamurti. We can conclude from this that all are welcome!
The next meeting is on 10 January at Paddington Library – if you would like to write, please come along.
